Indira Gandhi Memorial Museum
The residence of the former Prime Minister, Indira
Gandhi, where her own bodyguards assassinated her on 31st October 1984
was converted into a museum after her assassination. Indira Gandhi
Memorial Museum preserves the personal belongings very well and in such
a manner that they are rendered alive by merely their presentation. One
can see the sari she was wearing when she was assassinated, a collection
of rare photographs recording the Nationalist movement and the personal
moments of the Nehru-Gandhi family and her childhood photographs with
the Mahatma. The charming garden is unfortunately also the one where she
was assassinated. Here, one can hear Mrs. Gandhi's speeches from
megaphones hidden in the bushes. Dried blood spots can be seen enclosed
in a glass frame at the spot, where Mrs. Gandhi was assassinated.
