shopping paradise for everybody, Delhi has everything to offer on its
markets. The arts and crafts from all the states of India are available
in the emporia at Baba Khadg Singh Marg near Parliament. Crafts Museum
on Mathura Road offers shawls, pottery and paintings. There are antique
shops in Sunder Nagar while Chandni Chowk has its hold in commercial
activities for more than three centuries. Jewellery shops at Dariba
Kalan are famous while Dilli Haat is known for handicraft and handloom
items. Connaught Place is the centre of New Delhi and offers some of the

Ansal Plaza
A part of HUDCO Place built on 35 acres of land, Ansal Plaza is a
shopping complex situated near South Extension, one of the posh markets
of rich South Delhi. The Plaza complex competes with the best
international shopping complexes in the world in its architectural
splendor, aesthetic details and shopping experience. A perfect hangout
destination, it is built in a circular fashion around an amphitheater
with a center stage. Different cultural functions are organized here
from time to time such as fashion shows, live band performances and
performing arts to promote the retail area.
Chandni Chowk
The various markets of Delhi are all the more interesting for having
their own distinctive ambience and flavor. In Old Delhi, the congested
and most densely populated market of Chandni Chowk has survived for more
than three centuries. Strewn richly with historical landmarks, this
shopping area has shops, which are more than 100 years old. The narrow
streets and bylanes offer a whole plethora of surprises and one can
struck some of the best bargains with patience. One of the narrow
streets branching off from Chandni Chowk is 'Dariba Kalan', known for

perumes or 'itra' here. Spices are the specialty of Khari Baoli while
Kinari Bazaar is the best place to look for 'zari' and 'zardozi'
trimmings and tinsel.
Connaught Place
Designed by Robert Tor Russell and W H Nicholls, the horseshoe-shaped
market of New Delhi was named after the Duke of Connaught, a member of
the British royal family. It was the largest of its kind in India at
that time. It is still a premier shopping destination of Delhi and is
one of the leading commercial and business hubs of the city with a
number of restaurants, food joints, watering holes, shops, emporia and
cinema halls. Connaught can be broadly categorized into two parts -
Inner Circle and Janpath.
Other Markets
The other notable market complexes in Delhi include Greater Kailash
Market reputed as the market for the rich. South Extension Part I &
II is another rich people's market in South Delhi offering quality
garments and footwear and have outlets of almost all the top
international brands. Karol Bagh is a thriving commercial and business
centre dominated by Punjabis. Cental Market of Lajpar Nagar is one of
the largest markets in Delhi that has everything from food joints to
fashionable clothes to footwear to handbags. An inexpensive market of
South Delhi, Sarojini Nagar is a must visit market for people with low
budgets. Hauz Khas Village shopping complex is a unique blend of the old
and new with rich historical legacy.
